Why renting a projector is a smarter choice than buying

Every family has a wish list. Married couples wish for a bigger house, families with young children wish for bottomless college funds, and now more than ever, families in the later stages of life wish for home theater systems. Entering a giveaway contest is one way to achieve this wish, and winning the lottery is another. But for those of us who can’t rely on luck, there’s an easier way to enjoy home movies and high definition DVDs and Blu-Rays on a larger than life scale—by renting a projector.

Renting is affordable

At a tiny percentage of the retail price, your family can rent a projector and keep it for as long as you’d like. You can rent the newest Blu-Ray release and keep a rental projector overnight, or you can hold it for a month and catch up on all the seasons of your favorite television series.

You’re not committed

If it any point you notice distortion or begin to wonder what an upgrade of 1000 lumen would look like, you can pack up your projector rental and send it back and order a different model. If you’re skeptical about the hype surrounding DLP vs. LCD technology, you can rent two projectors at once and compare them side by side, for less than the cost of purchasing one or the other. The NEC NP410 and the DLP 1510x are close in specifications and would make for a worthy showdown.

It gets even better

By renting a portable projector, you can bypass all the headaches that come with ownership. Add up the cost of broken parts, burnt out bulbs and faulty wires and you’ll soon realize the money you’ve also saved. When you rent a projector, you can send it back before you drop it rearranging your room, or your children knock it over with a soccer ball.

Renting a projector can ease the worry

We promise our clients that LCD and DLP projectors create an unbeatable multimedia experience, and thus, we understand why you may want to own one. Even if you’re considering buying a projector, renting one (or even two) can help you make a definitive commitment or choose between multiple projectors that you may be considering. Going into a purchase with knowledge about how the projector preforms is always a smart move, and gives you the leg up against other consumers.

Things to consider when setting up your projector rental

When you rent a projector from Rental Projectors Corporation, you will undoubtedly be pleased with the quality of the audio visual display that each of our projector rentals produces. To get the most out of your projector rental experience, you can follow the personalized instructions that are shipped with each projector, and abide by these few simple rules when considering your options for setting up your digital projector:

  1. Choose the right venue. The venue is essential in creating the best environment to use your superior DLP or LCD projector rental. It is crucial that the venue is big enough so that the entire audience of your presentation can view the projection surface from an appropriate angle. Renters get the most out of their digital multimedia projectors when various factors such as size, shape, and outside light intrusion work together to form an optimized location.
  2. Test your throw distance.Throw distance is the distance from the tip of your projector rental to your surface, wall, or rental screen, and it plays a significant role in the quality of your image. Each of our multimedia projectors for rent has a different internal formula that produces a different sized image at a certain distance from your projection surface. To decide where to place your rental projector to produce the display quality you desire, visit the location of your presentation early and practice projecting an image onto your surface from various distances away, until you find the clarity and size you are looking for. If your venue is small, you may find that you have to place your rental projector in an adjacent room to produce a display that fills your entire screen or surface.
  3. Select the appropriate brightnessWhile all of our projectors for rent have superior brightness capabilities, the ideal brightness setting for your rented projector depends on several things, including: the purpose of your event, the size of both your venue and audience, and the ambient light from outside sources. Generally speaking, however, if high levels of ambient light are present, or if you are displaying a presentation outside, you will need at least 2000 lumens of brightness to produce the best picture. When smaller amounts of light are present, 1200-1500 lumens are recommended, and when the venue is completely dark (such as a dark home cinema room), 1000 lumens may be all you need to produce a quality display.
  4. Be sure to utilize your best connection option. Advanced projector rentals from RentalProjectors.com come with several connectability options. Low-input sources such as a VGA connection or laptop will produce a poorer quality image than an HDMI connection, or a built in HD DVD or Blu-Ray player.

And if, at any point throughout the set up of your rental projector, further questions should arise, our staff of audio visual technology specialists are available day and night to answer your calls at (888) 951-5060.

Tips for adjusting your projection image

There are numerous different elements that can affect the quality of your projection image during your presentation that is out of your LCD or DLP projector’s control. Most of these are human errors or environmental intrusions that can be easily rectified.

The number one thing you have to remember before your presentation is to make absolutely sure you remove the lens cap before you begin setting up your PowerPoint presentation. As humorous and obvious as this sounds, this happens all the time. The presenter will be so concerned about the setup process of their projector, laptop and presentation that they forget this very important and simple step.

Always make sure that all of your connections are securely tightened and are connected where they belong. Even if you have to bring along a small screwdriver or pair of pliers, it is much better than having to watch as a loose connection pops off of your projector or laptop during the middle of your PowerPoint presentation and you have to stop your presentation in front of your audience to reconnect your equipment.

After you have all of your connections secured and you have powered on all of your devices, take a minute to analyze the projection image before you start digging into your Microsoft or MAC office programs. If the image appears distorted or out-of-focus, first make sure again you have removed the lens cap, and then go to your manual focus and zoom adjustment ring. These adjustment rings are very delicate and can shift quite easily, so chances are if your image is distorted right from the start, your manual focus and zoom adjustment ring just needs to be tinkered with a bit until your image appears crystal clear.

If you have gone through these steps and your image is still not as clear as you were hoping, analyze your presentation environment for a minute or two. How many of the lights are on? Can you turn them all off? Are the shades open on the windows? Can you close them?

Ambient light intrusion is arguably the most frustrating enemy to the PowerPoint presentation. Luckily, if you rented one of our 3000 lumen projectors, ambient light will not be a serious problem. But for those who didn’t, do whatever you can within reason to darken your presentation environment. If possible, turn off all of the interior lighting and make sure all of the shades and curtains are drawn on the windows and/or glass doors. The more lighting that you can decrease in your presentation venue, the more your projection image will increase in quality and clarity.

These are just some suggestions of many on how to correct or enhance the quality and clarity of your projection image before and during your presentation (preferably before you begin your presentation).

NEC Projector Rentals, Renting a Projector

We are excited to share with our clients and potential clients that we have recently made an upgrade to our line of LCD projector rentals. We now have brand new LCD NEC NP410 EDU projectors available to rent.

When we decided to make an upgrade to our LCD NEC projector line, there were several different factors that were involved in making the decision to acquire the new NEC NP410 EDU. What really appealed to us about the NEC NP410 EDU is that it is a very well-equipped all-around workhorse. It has a 2600 lumen count which is more than powerful enough to handle most typical professional and educational uses. It supports a high native resolution of 1024 x 768 and has a very sharp contrast ratio at 2000:1.

What is also special about the NEC NP410 is that it is one of the simplest to operate projector rentals that we have ever offered. The control pad is very clear and concise on their functions and the manual focus and zoom is almost self-explanatory.

Another unique attribute of the new NEC NP410 is its incredibly lightweight design for an LCD presentation projector. As you may know, LCD projectors tend to be a bit bulkier and heavier than your DLP projector but this new NEC NP410 breaks that stereotype with a very intricately crafted sleek desgin that makes the the LCD projector incredibly ideal for the traveling professional with its excellent portability and versatility. The NEC NP 410 also comes with all of the connection and networking options you would expect with a premium LCD projector and also supports control and monitoring through network and VGA-cable as well.

PowerPoint Presentation Tips Professionals Need to Know (Part Two)

Now that we have discussed how a professional PowerPoint presentation should be typically structured and followed, we can now go a little more in-depth on the content of your PowerPoint slides.

1) When adding your key points and information to your slides it is important to display your information in the form of bullet points instead of complete sentences. Keeping your information in bullet points is extremely helpful in reminding you that your PowerPoint presentation is a visual aid and not the heart and soul of your presentation. Use the bullet points as guides and construct your own sentences and talking points around them. Once again, DO NOT read your PowerPoint slides directly word-for-word.

2) Bullet points also help you from creating large chunks or blocks of text that end up being a distraction to both the presenter and their audience. The presenter will have to fight the incredible urge to read the large block of text and so will their audience. This means if you are refraining from reading your slides word-for-word chances are your audience has given into temptation and is reading the giant block text that is on your slide.

3) Images. Images can often do more harm than good for any type of PowerPoint presentation but there are times when images are not only a nice visual compliment but are event a necessary addition to particular slides. If you decide you absolutely need to add an image(s) to a slide, there are some things that you will want to avoid and things to keep in mind during this process. First, avoid clip-art at all costs. Clip-art is considered by many as highly unprofessional, gaudy, and rather annoying. It shows a lack of creativity on the presenter’s part as well as time spent on their PowerPoint presentation.

4) Choose your images carefully. Make sure they are clear, colorful, non pixelated and most importantly, relevant to the content of your presentation. Make sure you carefully review all of your images to make absolutely sure that they will not be offensive to any member of your audience in anyway shape or form. This happens more commonly than most think so make sure you do your homework before tossing images into your presentation.

5) Checking your work. Reviewing and editing your PowerPoint presentation is one of the most important aspects of the PowerPoint creation process. Nothing says unprofessional like multiple misspellings and grammar errors.

Check all spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure over and over again until you are absolutely sure that everything is as correct as can be. Make sure that all of your sentences run smoothly and logically. Make sure everything is properly spaced and all font sizes match up throughout the entirety of your presentation.

6) Practice. After everything is said and done in terms of your construction of your presentation, make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to review as well as practice presenting your presentation. The more you practice the more confident and prepared you will be when the time comes for you to present all of your hard work.

Thank you for taking the time to read PowerPoint Presentation Tips Professionals Need to Know and always check our blog at RentalProjectors.com for continuously updating posts that provide important and useful tips for professionals who are looking to make the most out of their professional projector rental presentation.

PowerPoint Presentation Tips Professionals Need to Know (Part One)

power point tips - projector rentals- renting a projectorMaking sure you are using the highest quality in DLP and LCD projectors for your professional presentations is one giant leap in a positive direction but your PowerPoint presentation itself is what seals the deal for your success. Ensuring that your PowerPoint presentation is well organized and follows a well constructed outline effectively, is critical to the impact your presentation will have on your audience or colleagues.

1)The first thing to do when beginning to create a PowerPoint presentation is dedicate the entire first slide to your introduction. This slide should be very basic. Clearly present the title of your presentation along with your full name and the date your presentation is taking place. A mistake that many professionals make is that they convince themselves that this is too plain or basic and add a clip -art image or outline their main points or thesis. This overcrowds your presentation right away and forces the presenter to start rolling through their main points immediately. Give yourself some time to warm up to your audience and prepare yourself before rushing in to your presentation.

2) Now after you have taken time to catch your breath and warm up to your audience, you now use your second slide to to outline your main points or thesis and state them in a clear and logical order and make sure you follow your outline throughout the entirety of your presentation.

3) You can start talking generally about your main points or your presentation as a whole, but when you begin to reach the end, make sure that you narrow the major points down that you need your audience to absorb. In other words, make sure you summarize in a conclusion but be specific and drive home what your audience should absorb the most from your presentation.

4) It is also very important to simplify every slide as much as you can without losing professionalism, proper sentence and grammar structure, and informal voice. The last thing you want to happen is for your audience to lose themselves or have a tough time trying to decipher your information efficiently before you move on to the next slide.

5) Your content slides should contain the bulk of the information in your presentation and should be used to argue or reinforce your main points. There is no law that permits you from presenting with too many slides, so never try to cram as much information as possible on to each slide in order to shorten the length in slides of your PowerPoint presentation.

6) Always make sure you keep a proper balance of reading from your slides and speaking for yourself. Your audience does not want to sit and listen to a presenter read directly from their PowerPoint slides the entire presentation. If you are planning on doing that, you can save them some time and just email them your presentation. Your audience wants to hear you! Your PowerPoint presentation makes an excellent presentation and visual aid, but relying entirely on your slides shows your audience that you came inadequately prepared or lack knowledge and/or dedication.

7) Your final slide should not be a summary or conclusion of your presentation. Use the last slide or last few slides before the final slide for this. Your final slide should reflect your introduction slide in terms of simpleness. Provide a follow up question or discussion topic, maybe add some contact information if you would like. If you really don’t feel you need to or want to add anything at all it is OK to just add a blank slide to the end of your presentation to signal the concluding of your presentation. You do not need to insert the word “END” or a phrase of that nature, it looks terribly unprofessional and your audience will get the picture.

Are miniature projectors worth the investment? (Part two)

Distortion in quality is apparent in many of the viral videos that show demonstrations of pico projectors, but you can also see that this depends on how large the image is being displayed and the variance in distance or (projection throw) between the projector and the screen. If the projection throw distance is short and the display size is set between 20-30 inches, some of the pico projectors produce a quality image with good color as long as the room is kept very dark. When the image size begins to expand beyond this margin it is apparent that image quality and brightness begins to deplete.

While researching the pico projectors I definitely wanted to see the reactions to these projectors by consumers who have purchased them. There are numerous online reviews on nearly all makes and models of pico projectors and Amazon.com will provide you with countless reviews both positive and negative that will help shine light on whether purchasing a pico projector is right for you.

The reviews vary depending on the make and model of pico projector but overall they are split on using a pico projector for personal entertainment use or using it for professional use. Many of the reviews for professional use confirmed my skepticism on the low lumen count of these palm-sized projectors. Consumers often said that the light output was not nearly enough to produce a a quality of image that would be effective for professional use such as in an office or conference room where ambient light will be a factor. Many complained of color breakup and pixel distortion especailly when the image size as well as the throw ration was increased.

Many consumers were unaware that many of these models do not include adapters for devices such as iphones, ipods and ipads, which need to be purchased seperatley. There were also reviews that complained about their pico projector being very complicated to connect to a laptop and some were unable to connect the projector to the laptop at all.

The reviews were more positive for using a pico projector for personal use or having as a piece in a gadget enthusiast’s collection. Many consumers were pleased with the compact size and portability of pico projectors and their ability to connect to devices like ipods, iphones and ipads and stream music and videos directly through itunes. There are several positive reviews on using the pico projectors for personal home-theater use but often reiterate that the room they are using it in must be kept very dark.

These are all independent reviews by consumers so certain aspects of reviews should be considered as well such as the technical knowledge of reviewers, unique circumstances, uncommon occurrences, make and model of projector.

Overall the consensus appears that the pico projectors varying by make and model are more ideal for recreational use than they are for professional use. A big factor in this split is the light output or lumen count of these projectors as it is apparent through watching demonstrations and reading articles and reviews that these projectors need to be used in rooms and venues that are kept very dark and free from ambient light intrusion. The pico projector technology is exciting ,appealing, and would be great as a recreational device and for the electronic gadget guru. In terms of large-scaled home theater use and professional use of any kind the portable pico projectors are not quite there yet.

Are miniature projectors worth the investment?

Minature Projector Rentals - Renting a projector

The combination of ongoing mind-bending technological advances and an incredibly high consumer demand for their everyday electronic devices to become smaller and more portable without losing power or ability has lead to the mass-shrinking of nearly every electronic device on the market. About the only sector of electronics that have taken the opposite road are televisions, while everything else is now able to fit in the palm of your hand and effortlessly inside a pocket or purse. Why wouldn’t this pattern eventually land on the DLP and LCD projector sector?

The palm-sized projectors also commonly referred to as “pico” projectors, have actually been readily available for the last seven to eight years now but have more recently been brought into the spotlight and attention of the everyday miniature electronic enthusiast because of the extreme desirability of cell phones like the iphone, Blackberry and Droid (among others). The main selling-point of these tiny LCD and DLP projectors is their connect-ability to these devices more particularly the iphone and ipad.

As appealing and exciting this new technology in portable projectors appears, the question now is, how well do they actually work?

Doing research on “pico” projectors will immediately reveal some cautionary flags to the LCD and DLP projector enthusiast. What really jumps out at you if you are knowledgeable in the field of portable projectors is the lumen count of these mini projectors. Most of these projectors run around 15-20 lumens and max out around 30 or so. This is a substantially low light output compared to the common 2,000 to 3,500 lumen count found on most quality LCD and DLP projectors. This essentially means that to get decent picture quality out of a pico projector the room you are using it in needs to be as dark as possible. Any type of back-lighting or ambient light will dramatically distort clarity and richness in color. So for those of you who are excited about buying a pico projector to make office presentations more convenient should take note of this before deciding to buy.

If you are considering purchasing a pico projector but would like to see how they perform before you make your decision, an easy way in starting your research is to search for and watch the ample amount of viral videos on the web that in which consumers show their pico projectors in live action. I have seen several of these videos while researching this projector technology and one thing you need to keep in mind is that the quality of viral videos or YouTube videos being streamed will be a factor in how the projections of these pico projectors appear in terms of overall quality.

When watching these videos and keeping the viral video distortion in mind, there are some cautionary flags that will still leap out at you if you are considering to buy a pico projector for professional use. You will first notice how dark the rooms are where the individuals will be demonstrating their pico projectors. In most cases it is movie-theater dark in order to bring out the best in the contrast ratio and brightness level of these projectors. You will also notice that there is image distortion that appears in many of these videos that resemble shadows of ceiling fan blades cascading through the projection or still dark spots that deplete the sharpness and color richness drastically.

This can sometimes be a  type of “rolling shutter” effect that can be produced by a variety of electronics that use a scanning process to acquire images such as digital cameras and camcorders. This effect can be a result from many different aspects but is usually attributed to issues with the sensor. The “rolling shutter” effect can cause distortion in a variety of ways which include image skew, wobble and partial exposure.
